Mermaidman Funko Pop! – To The Invisible Boat Mobile!
I recently picked up the UK-exclusive Mermaidman Funko Pop! from eBay, originally released in 2020 as part of a set that included SpongeBob, Patrick Star, and Squidward. This one had been on my wishlist for a while, and while I was tempted by the deluxe version that includes Barnacle Boy and the Invisible Boatmobile, I ultimately went for this single release—and I’m glad I did, purely because it takes up a lot less space!
What I Love:
- Design: Funko nailed the look of Mermaidman! While it doesn’t have as much weight as some other Pops in my collection, it still feels well-made, compact, and full of great details. The sculpt does a fantastic job capturing his classic heroic (yet slightly out-of-shape) appearance, and the mix of textures adds to its overall quality.
- Nostalgia Factor: Mermaidman is an iconic character, and I love that there are only two versions of him in Funko form—it makes this release feel a bit more special. Surprisingly, I didn’t even know this particular version existed until just a few days before I bought it, which is wild considering it’s now five years old. With SpongeBob’s Funko lineup constantly expanding, especially with the recent 25th-anniversary wave, it’s cool to own something that isn’t as widely recognized as other characters in the franchise.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re a SpongeBob fan (which, let’s be honest, who isn’t?), this is definitely a must-have. It’s a fun addition to any collection, especially since it breaks away from the usual pattern of SpongeBob and Patrick variants.
Would I recommend it? If you come across this one at a reasonable price, don’t hesitate – Mermaidman deserves a spot on your shelf!
